Demetri Washington, the man arrested with Celeste Thomas when she was Tased, was convicted Wednesday of crimes stemming from that incident - but said he was driving Thomas' car only because she was intoxicated.

METUCHEN — A rash of motor vehicle thefts occurred in the borough over a two-day period last week. The incidents occurred between 9:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and 8:50 a.m. Sept. 25, police said. Six motor vehicles that were parked at two separate Middlesex Avenue residences were burglarized.

On Monday, Sept. 28, at approximately 1:20 a.m. Pearland police officers conducted a traffic stop on SH 288 just north of CR 101. The officers had stopped a blue Toyota Corolla for speeding and the violator stopped on the southbound shoulder of SH 288.

DANVERS and mdash; The 65-year-old Danvers man struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old neighbor on Sept. 10 died Monday. Michael E. Colman, who lived at 10 College Pond Drive, had been in a Boston hospital since he was struck by a car while walking on his street, a residential dead-end road off Summer Street near St. John's Prep School.
